Mary J. Blige and D’Angelo with Melanie Fiona

- Mary J. Blige and Dâ??Angelo with Melanie Fiona
Event on 2012-09-07 20:00:00Grammy award-winning songstress Mary J. Blige and highly-praised R&B singer Dâ??Angelo will co-headline The Liberation Tour with a stop at the Pearl on September 7, 2012 at 8 p.m. The tour also features special guest Melanie Fiona.
With worldwide sales of more than 50 million albums and a track record of eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards (plus a staggering 29 nominations) and four American Music Awards, Mary J. Blige is only getting started. The singer released her 10th studio album in 2001, My Life II â?¦ The Journey Continues (Act 1). Released via Bligeâ??s Geffen/Interscope-distributed Matriarch label, the project doubles as the sequel to Bligeâ??s 1994 classic My Life.
Blige once again fashions a moving testimony about love, devotion and inner strength. Providing the albumâ??s cornerstone is the track â??Living Proof.â? Also the closing song for the hit movie â??The Help,â? the spare yet powerful song speaks volumes about lifeâ??s hard-won rewards. She goes toe to toe with Drake on the uptempo chart-climber â??Mr. Wrong,â? then displays equal doses of fervor and naked honesty, respectively, on â??25/8â? (sampling the late Heavy D gem â??Now That We Found Loveâ?) and â??No Condition.â? She taps her rap alter ego Brook Lynn for the romance-sparked â??Midnight Drive.â? Rounding out Bligeâ??s life sequel are guest turns from Nas, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross and a first-time pairing with Beyoncé on â??Love a Woman.â?
Influenced at an early age by the music of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight, Blige brought her own gritty, urban-rooted styleâ??fusing hip-hop, soul and honest, frank lyricsâ??to the forefront on her 1992 debut album Whatâ??s the 411? The multi-platinum set, executive produced by Sean â??Diddyâ? Combs, quickly spun off several hits, including â??You Remind Meâ? and â??Real Love.â?
Earning the nickname the â??Queen of Hip-Hop Soul,â? Blige began forging a unique niche for herself on the more personal second album, 1994â??s My Life. Co-writing a major portion of the album this time around, Blige reaped such hits and signature songs as â??Be Happyâ? and a cover of Rose Royceâ??s 1976 hit â??Iâ??m Goinâ?? Down.â?
Each subsequent album reads like a chapter from an autobiography: Share My World (1997), Mary (1999), No More Drama (2001), Love & Life (2003), the multiple Grammy-winning and hit-spewing The Breakthrough (2005), Growing Pains (2007) and Stronger with Each Tear (2009). Along the way, sheâ??s lined up a string of hit singles, including â??Not Gonâ?? Cry,â? â??Love Is All We Need,â? Seven Days,â? â??All That I Can Say,â? â??Family Affairâ? and â??Just Fine.â?
Blige, who co-penned â??I Can See in Colorâ? for 2009â??s â??Preciousâ? soundtrack, is also ramping up her career in film and television. She currently appears in the Adam Shankman-directed â??Rock of Agesâ? and it was recently announced that Blige will appear as a mentor to Maroon 5â??s Adam Levine during the fall season of The â??Voice.â?
Dâ??Angelo co-headlines The Liberation Tour, marking it his first U.S. tour in more than a decade. Recently having wowed audiences at the Essence Music Festival, Bonnaroo and the BET Awards, Dâ??Angelo is back with passion and drive. The comeback has made headlines, as have rumblings of his third studio album, James River, tentatively scheduled to be released in 2012. Dâ??Angelo first hit the world of neo-soul and R&B in 1995 with his debut album, Brown Sugar. The follow up album, Voodoo, came more than five years later and still debuted at #1. The track â??Untitled (How Does It Feel)â? earned Dâ??Angelo a Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
With the release of her debut The Bridge, Melanie Fiona emerged as one of 2009â??s finest new breakout stars, boasting a Grammy-nominated hit single â??It Kills Me.â? The Los Angeles-based native of Toronto, Canada is co-managed by Jay-Zâ??s Roc Nation imprint and recently released her second studio album, The MF Life (2012).

Chris Cagle
Ask Chris Cagle whatâ??s most important to him and you can bet heâ??ll answer this way: â??Family, ranch, music. Thatâ??s it.â? This response is seemingly simple for a man whose professional credits include two gold albums, two No. 1 albums and 12 charted songs. From 2000-2008, Cagle released an almost nonstop catalog of hits that resulted in a scorching hot career. Cagle's musical character and burning ambition never wavered but today, Cagleâ??s personal perspective has mellowed. 2012's forthcoming album is, in more ways than one, a new lease on life. Born in DeRidder, La., and raised "all over," Chris set off for Nashville after trying his hand at college in Texas and finding the pull to pursue music too strong to ignore. Like many young artists, he spent several years working odd jobs in Nashville and scraping up enough cash to record four original songs for a demo tape. Thanks to a couple of chance meetings and the opportunity to be heard by Scott Hendricks, Chris was signed to Virgin Records in 2000 â?? that first album featured the unaltered version of his demo songs. Chris quickly earned critical and commercial success and attracted a legion of fans that included industry heavyweights and country fans alike. Cagle's first number one smash, â??I Breathe In, I Breathe Out,â? remains a fan favorite. Cagle's 2012 release from Bigger Picture Group, under the working title, â??Back In The Saddleâ? is his homecoming â?? a rekindling of his creative flame and a roaring reminder of his rock-infused country roots. Itâ??s something he originated and what he does best: relatable, back-roads and familiar while also being a striking form of country music worth getting excited about. While assuring his fans that the Chris they love hasnâ??t changed, Cagle sees his new persona as a better version of himself. â??I want my music to be an environment, to strike chords, passions, memories, faults, loves, angers and redemptions,â? Chris says. â??Imagine my music just on the outside of town right where the road turns to the rural route. A dirt road cul-de-sac with trucks all parked in a circle. I would love to see my music fit into that.â?
